(Video) Ryan Sessegnon’s highlights v Aston Villa – Scouting LFC’s likely new backup left-back

It’s no secret that Ryan Sessegnon is Liverpool’s primary target for left-back this summer.

Fulham’s 16-year-old has seven goals in the Championship this term and according to Paul Joyce in the Times, is the only player we want to supplement the position next season – with the aim being that Sessegnon backs up James Milner.

On Monday night, Fulham beat Aston Villa 3-1 and Sessegnon played the full 90 – some at left-wing and some in defence.

So what did we learn? First thing’s first: Sessegnon is barbarically quick. He makes Coutinho look a slouch and would give Sadio Mane a run for his money in a footrace.

And unlike Milner, he’s very left-footed, so is capable of going on the outside and whipping in crosses.

He loves bombing forward and is surprisingly strong for a 16-year-old, too. Technically he’s very solid and possesses a good side-foot pass (only with his left) that can send attackers into space.

Defensively, there’s still questions to be asked and improvements to be made. Like Trent Alexander-Arnold, he’s far more comfortable in the opposition half than his own.

In terms of talent though, Sessegnon seems to have an unbelievably high ceiling and if Klopp wants him, so do we.
