Possible starter becomes latest major Liverpool injury doubt for Palace clash

Liverpool’s injury crisis got a whole lot worse today as it was announced that Daniel Sturridge was a serious doubt for Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace at Anfield.

The Reds could also be without the likes of Joel Matip, Lucas Leiva and Ragnar Klavan who Jurgen Klopp labelled as doubts during his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

Sturridge has missed a number of training sessions during the build up to the match and a final decision is likely to be made on the day of the game, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The striker has not started a game since January’s League Cup semi-final defeat against Southampton but has posed as a potential starter for the game at home to Palace as a result of Klopp’s apparent need to readjust his starting eleven. It comes as yet another set-back for both the injury-stricken England star and Liverpool’s pursuit of a top four place.

Klopp’s men could still, however, be boosted by a potential return to fitness for Matip and Lucas, who were both reported to have been progressing well and winning their battles to be available in time to play. As it stands, though, it could well be a somewhat unfamiliar lineup that takes to the field against Sam Allardyce’s side.

If Sturridge is to leave Merseyside in the summer as rumours have suggested, it would be a shame if we didn’t get to see him score or at least play again in a Liverpool shirt.

An incredible talent cruelly hampered by injury.
