Bundesliga chairman speaks transfers: ‘I happen to know a good contact in Liverpool…’

Schalke general manager Christian Heidel has discussed the futures of three of his players, all of whom have been linked to Liverpool over the past few months.

There’s suggestions Jurgen Klopp is keeping tabs on left-back Sead Kolasinac (available on a Bosman), and young midfield pair Leon Goretzka and Max Meyer.

But Heidl has claimed that Klopp, his good friend, has not alerted him of any interest yet – suggesting the Schalke players may not be too high up our shortlist.

“I happen to know a good contact in Liverpool,” said Heidel, who was actually Klopp’s sporting director at Mainz.

“Jurgen and I have such a good relationship that I have always known everything in advance. This time I do not know anything – and that is why the English media does not know anything.”

“And Klopp does not always know exactly who they [LFC scouts] are watching…”

Kolasinac would appear a smart signing due to the fact we’re short at left-back and and because he’s available for free,  but we appear more interested in Fulham’s goalscoring wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon for this position.

The other two mooted names are talented, but wouldn’t get in our strongest starting XI and would be considered as squad players at first.

Klopp will definitely enter the transfer market, but Schalke’s players may only become serious targets if we fail to qualify for the Champions League. If we do finish in the top four, we hope the transfers will be slightly more exciting.
