Once again Jose Mourinho has been spouting rubbish in the hope of playing on the minds of his rival managers and once again Jurgen Klopp has responded in superb fashion.
Earlier in the week, the Manchester Untied boss, desperate for a touch of sympathy, explained how he felt his side’s hectic schedule made it a somewhat unequal fight for Champions League qualification.
Klopp refrained from shedding a tear for his opposite number and instead rightly dismissed the claims.
“No, it’s not unfair, it is the situation. Nobody asked us last year how we felt about it,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“I can imagine what he means when he says this but they have played a similar season to what we had last year. Obviously they also have a different squad, a wider squad, and with all of their injury problems they had so far they are still able to put out strong teams. You think: ‘Mkhitaryan isn’t playing? Rooney isn’t playing? And him, and him…’
“It is different but of course it’s hard. They have seven or eight games left – five in the Premier League, a semi-final and maybe a final. Yes that is hard, absolutely, But we had a similar situation last season.”

Mourinho seemingly overlooked the fact Liverpool endured a similarly difficult run last season when the Reds reached the Europa League final.
United currently sit in fifth and only two points behind third-placed Liverpool with a game in hand on Klopp’s men. A packed schedule aside, Mourinho has a much bigger squad at his disposal and the freedom to experiment in more ways than Klopp has the ability to do so. To still complain that the race for the top four is ‘unfair’ just sums up everything football fans have grown to dislike about the Portuguese manager.
