Klopp assesses likelihood of Liverpool securing top four spot

The phrase ‘must win game’ is used far too regularly in modern day football but it does pose as the exact mentality Liverpool’s players need to approach the remainder of their matches with.

A top four spot, despite last weekend’s 2-1 loss against Crystal Palace, remains a possibility but could well require four wins from the club’s final four games of the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will undoubtedly be feeling the pressure being put on them by Manchester United and Arsenal but the German boss himself is staying composed.

“One of the first things I learned in football is that it makes sense only to think about the next game. It has absolutely no influence on the games after that, and you have no idea who you can use in the game after this,” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo.

“You have another four, five, six days to prepare for this game and think about this game. They are important, we know.”

“If we win no games in the last four, it will be difficult to be in the Champions League. If we win one, it will be unlikely. If we win two, it’s not really likely.”

“But if we start winning three, it can work. If we win four, I would say it’s more likely it will happen. So that’s how it is. We know all this.”

This team is more than capable of a maximum points finish yet the season so far has showcased just how prone Liverpool are to the unexpected or the odd shock.

The way the team’s rivals are playing demands a strong run of results if Klopp’s side are to stand any chance of securing a place amongst Europe’s elite clubs next season. It promises to be a pressure that truly tests how brave and how driven this team is.
