Lucas opens up on relationship with Klopp and ‘special’ feeling about Liverpool

It is the undying respect and commitment to Liverpool that makes Lucas Leiva loved by all Reds.

The Brazilian has been in and out of the team throughout the season and, in fact, over the past few seasons, but not once has he complained nor has his desire to see the club prevail disappeared in any way.

He now founds himself part of a team set to embark on a four crucial Premier League games in which Liverpool will fight for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Lucas has outlined his excitement surrounding what the current squad is capable of moving forward as well as the understanding that has developed between himself and Jurgen Klopp.

“There’s something special [going on at the club] I’d say. The group of players we have and the manager knows what it takes to win. We’ve seen how much we’ve improved in the last 18 months as a team and as a club. Everyone is a lot more positive because he arrived here and gave us that extra energy,” he told Sky Sports.

“My relationship with him is fantastic. He’s a guy I’ve learned a lot from on the pitch and off. He also knows how I am when I’m not playing so much, but there are never any problems.”

Liverpool’s emphatic start to the campaign was primarily hampered by a lack of strength in depth when key players were absent. It did, however, demonstrate how close this team is to mounting a serious title challenge and how this could well be exercised next season if the club recruits wisely in the summer.

Though the arrival of new faces in the transfer window is likely to force Lucas into a more highly-contested fight for a start, it doesn’t appear as though it will deter just how valuable Klopp deems his experience to be.

The desire to see this club be successful again despite uncertainty over his future is what continues to present Lucas as such an admirable servant to Liverpool.
