Lallana opens up on thoughts towards early introduction and first game back

It turned out to be a more than pleasing evening for Liverpool as the team not only secured a valuable three points against Watford but also welcomed Adam Lallana back from injury.

The midfielder’s return was somewhat premature as he was forced on in the 13th minute in place of the injured Philippe Coutinho.

It was as though he had never been away as he displayed the grace, movement and invention that has seen him become one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players this season.

The England star hailed the opportunity to play longer than he thought he would and has reflected on his first appearance following a six-week spell on the sidelines.

“It was a bonus. I didn’t expect to come on so early but these things happen,” Lallana told Sky Sports, as cited by the Liverpool Echo.

“You’ve got to be prepared mentally for anything. I had to come on and I felt I got into the game quite quickly, I didn’t feel like I’d lost too much rhythm. I was a bit tired at the end, but I’ve had five or six weeks out of the game so that’s only normal.”

Lallana, tired? Such a phrase has been relatively unheard of during his time at Anfield. That said, it didn’t show on the pitch. His return has come at an ideal time in terms of bolstering Klopp’s options and boosting Liverpool’s final push for Champions League qualification.

It was great to see him back on the ball again and a reminder of how key he is in aiding the team’s fluidity and the interchanging. His touch and delicacy on the ball is crucial when it comes to ensuring the fast pace in which Liverpool attack isn’t hampered by poor touches or slow decision making.

Welcome back, Adam.
