The way Trent Alexander-Arnold is progressing suggests Reds have good reason to be excited by what he will go on to be capable of.

Liverpool’s teenage star has enjoyed a memorable season having broken into the senior side on a number of occasions as well as proving to be a class above a lot of his opponents for the U23s.

Though Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly refrain from rushing him in, there is a chance the youngster could feature even more regularly next season.

Recent months have seen fans deem him as a ready competitor to Nathaniel Clyne’s starting right-back position, acting as testament to how highly he is regarded on Merseyside.

The man himself has identified one key objective he is keen to achieve at his boyhood club.

In a superb interview with the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce, he said: “I want to play for Liverpool for my whole career and one day hopefully I’ll captain the side.”

“Until I have finally reached being captain and I’m playing week in, week out, I’ll never be satisfied.”

“Even then you can’t take a step back. There will be someone who will want that armband and there will be someone chasing my place in the team. You can’t even be complacent. You need to do everything you can to keep the shirt.”

“I have my own goals and my own dreams. I am just trying to fulfil my full potential.”

His performances in this campaign alone have been enough to showcase what a special talent he is and just how much money he can save the club in years to come. A regular starting place beckons and could be his within the next two or three seasons if he continues to develop at the speed he has up until now.

Both the technical and physical attributes are in place for him to mould into a reliable and dynamic option for Klopp to have at his disposal. To show such commitment and set himself such high standards at this young age bodes well in terms of him requiring no added motivation moving forward. Not only is he a serious talent, but he has the perfect mentality to match.
