James Milner proves incredible commitment with recent admission

James Milner continues to give Reds good reason to admire what a great servant his is to Liverpool.

This season has seen the Englishmen once again demonstrate his valuable versatility, finding himself as Jurgen Klopp’s first choice left-back.

Not once has he complained nor has he looked out of place in a position even he has never played in before, so much so that it appears Klopp will recruit an understudy to him rather than an immediate replacement when the summer transfer window opens.

Milner’s outlook on his adopted position is testament his commitment and a reminder of what a dream he is for any manager to work with.

“It’s the first time I’ve played it in the Premier League and it’s not like getting to learn it on a Sunday with your mates. It’s a big change but I’ve always tried to learn throughout my career and I’ve played a lot of positions anyway, so it’s just trying to do the job as well as you can,” he told Sky Sports.

“But it’s about whatever is best for the team. Ultimately I just want to be out there playing games and contributing. I haven’t gone to [Klopp]. He knows how I feel and asked me at the start of the season about my thoughts. I believe that once you’ve committed to something and made a decision you stick to it and do your best.”

“There have been times I haven’t enjoyed it and have been frustrated, but I’m enjoying being part of this squad, we’ve got a lot of great players and I think we can be successful. I want to be a part of that.”

Every team needs someone like Milner and Reds can only hope that he remains at the club beyond his playing career.

He rarely finds himself as the main topic of conversation in press conferences or pre and post match discussion, which sums up just how reliable he is and has been. Not once has he been a concern, even despite playing out of position.

An experienced leader and thereby a man who will be crucial in helping players understand how to approach the club’s final Champions League run-in.
