Confirmation of Liverpool’s first choice replacement for Red close to Anfield exit

Ryan Sessegnon has been reaffirmed as Liverpool’s priority left-back target this summer with Alberto Moreno now looking certain to leave the club.

The Fulham teenager has been subject to strong interest with Jurgen Klopp reportedly eyeing him up as an ideal understudy to make shift full-back James Milner and the man he wants to play across from Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in years to come.

He remains to be the club’s first choice target in his position and will be pursued as a £10million replacement for Moreno, according to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.

This comes just days after it had been reported that a deal had been agreed with Hull City that would see Andrew Robertson announced as a Liverpool player when the transfer window opened.

Rumoured interest is not expected to be followed up and a deal for the Scot is now looking increasingly unlikely.

Sessegnon will celebrate his 17th birthday on Thursday and will only see his first professional contract activated on July 1. Despite his young age, he has been a revelation at Craven Cottage this season, scoring seven goals in 30 appearances and posing as a key figure in helping Fulham reach the play-offs.

His team’s subsequent elimination at the hands of Reading means Sessegnon will be left with a difficult decision to make in terms of whether or not to make the step up to the Premier League.

Current manager Slaviša Jokanović has regularly expressed his desire to keep hold of the player as well as his belief that it would be wise for the youngster to continue plying his trade with the Championship side in order to gain more experience.

The likely arrival of a new left-back seemingly spells the end of Moreno’s Anfield career having failed to establish himself as a reliable option since his £12million move from Sevilla in 2014.
