Henderson reveals classic Suarez story that sums up the Uruguayan

Jordan Henderson has shared a remarkable but by no means surprising story regarding Luis Suarez dating back to his time at Liverpool.

The Reds skipper revealed the tale whilst turning a focus towards the career of his former teammate as part of the final episode LFCTV series ‘Premier League Heroes’.

Not only was the Uruguayan a footballing genius and one of the most talented players to wear the Liverpool shirt, but he was a work horse and an ambassador for the energy, aggression, passion and desire that this club demands. It isn’t just the magical things he could do with a football that Reds adored him for, but also his sheer hunger and competitiveness.

Henderson’s story poses as a reminder of what made the striker so important to the team and, in turn, an Anfield great.

“Knocks and niggles didn’t bother him, he played through them. [He was] a real warrior. I never saw him in the treatment room,” he told LFCTV.

“I remember one game, his ankle was that swollen he couldn’t get his boot on, so he had to go a size up in someone else’s boots. He played on and scored an unbelievable free-kick.”

“Stuff like that you don’t forget. What he does on the pitch speaks for itself. To line up in the tunnel, it’d give you so much confidence as a player knowing that you were going into a game and he was leading at the top. You would react from him and he would set everything off.”

“He could make the difference at any point. You could be backs against the wall and defending for your life, and Luis could come up with a bit of magic and get you a goal – that’s the quality he had.”

Suarez scored 82 goals in 133 appearances for Liverpool and proved to be a driving force behind the 2013/2014 campaign in which the club came devastatingly close to winning the Premier League title.

He was a revelation and well and truly warranted his 2014 move to Barcelona where he has since won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey finals as well as the Champions League.

A fighter, a leader and a world class talent.
