LFC’s 5 priority targets named by [Independent] – Average Age 21.4…

Liverpool need quality this summer to expand a squad that felt bereft of it during the January which ultimately defined our campaign.

We’ve a great chance of a top four finish, only having to beat Middlesbrough on Sunday to secure Champions League football next season.

But having led the table around Christmas time, it could have been so much better.

However, the Independent’s Miguel Delaney has said Jurgen Klopp wants five specific players to come in ahead of 2017/18 and having crunched the numbers, their average age is 21.4-years-old…

He suggests Ryan Sessegnon (16), Timo Werner (21), Naby Keita (22), Andrew Robertson (23) will all be brought in, while Virgil Van Dijk (25) – the primary centre-back target – is closer to Chelsea…

Without the Dutchman included in that list of arrivals, it looks, to us, pretty underwhelming, especially at left-back.

Our priority should be a world-class centre-back and if we can’t acquire Southampton’s skipper, a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly might suffice. Keita is a terrific player, while Werner has displayed his talent this term. Sessegnon’s one for the future, but in truth, Robertson isn’t going to make us title challengers. What Delaney’s list is missing is a winger of genuine pedigree, such as Douglas Costa, or a striker in Alexandre Lacazette’s mould.

Let’s hope our actual shortlist is plenty more ambitious…
