Klopp actually went for Mbappe last summer, but was ‘warned off’…

This looks like it’s turning into a very, very costly transfer mistake…

Especially considering Monaco have already rejected a word-record £103m bid from Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe this month.

According to Chris Bascombe in the Telegraph, Liverpool wanted to sign the teenage Frenchman last summer, but Jurgen Klopp was ‘warned off’ and we decided against bringing a striker in.

Who warned him off, and for what reason, isn’t stated in his report.

This term, the 18-year-old has taken the football world by storm. He notched 26 goals in total, in roughly as many starts – bagging six in the Champions League to boot.

He can finish, is tremendously quick and looks to be on a fast track to ‘world’s best player’ status.

However, his progress means that he’s not a realistic Liverpool target right now, and we think Real Madrid will likely get their man at some point.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course, and there was no definitive proof a year ago that Mbappe would make such rapid strides – but we really wish Klopp was allowed to go with his instinct and buy the prodigious attacker!
