Daniel Sturridge an injury doubt for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifier

The latest news of a Daniel Sturridge injury is somewhat less concerning than previous problems and perhaps telling with regards to what the summer holds for him.

Sturridge emerged as a key contributor in Liverpool’s final two Premier League games of the season and went someway towards sparking a u-turn with many again growing fearful of what a mistake it would be to sell him.

Despite his impressive finish to the season, he is now a doubt for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifier with Scotland due to a long-term hip injury, according to the Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe.

It seems there is a commitment to the striker reaching full fitness during this pre-season, whether it be in aid of his future at Liverpool or elsewhere. Tackling this long-term problem hints at an effort to ensure he is available to play more frequently next season, regardless of what club he is at, which, at the moment, looks like it could well be Liverpool.

He was a notable influence in both of the club’s last two games, the 4-0 thrashing of West Ham in particular, and reminded all of what a difference he can make to this team when fit. His likely unavailability for England’s next outing could be wise in helping him overcome a problem that appears to have restricted him so dearly.

If it boosts his chances of a future at Anfield, so be it.
