The latest twist in the Mamadou Sakho saga…

Posted by

The odd story of Mamadou Sakho and his future continues, with the man he flourished under on loan at Crystal Palace, Sam Allardyce, leaving (and probably retiring to boot..).

The former England boss was a staunch admirer of our French centre-back, claiming on multiple occasions that he and his club would do what they can to buy him permanently, well aware of the £30m asking price Liverpool have slapped on his head.

However, with Allardyce not in charge at Selhurst Park next term, it remains totally uncertain whether his replacement will see £30m as ‘money well spent’ on the 27-year-old centre-back.

Sakho has absolutely no future under Jurgen Klopp, that much is certain, but due to his performances during the second half of this season, Liverpool want to make a hefty profit on his services.

Palace were the most likely to shell £30m out, but Sakho’s next club is now up in the air.

There’s been suggestions Southampton want him (Telegraph), while Napoli are similarly credited with an interest in the same report…

We’d imagine now Big Sam has gone that Sakho will set his heights a little higher than Palace, having played for PSG and Liverpool so far during this career.

But will a club who’s qualified for Europe be willing to pay what it takes? Time will tell.
