Liverpool could be forced to break their transfer record twice this summer in order to sign the club’s two priority targets.
It has previously been reported that it could take £50million to lure Virgil van Dijk away from Southampton and it now seems that a similarly high fee will need to be met to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita.
The Reds will have to break their transfer record to have any chance of signing the Guinean with Leipzig standing firm in their desire to keep their team together, according to Paul Joyce of the Times.
It looks likely that bids of between £50-£60million will be required to simply force the Bundesliga side to assess their approach, yet it has also been reported that Liverpool would be willing to pay up for a player they regard extremely highly.
Keita was a standout performer in an emphatic season in Germany’s top flight, in which Leipzig finished second behind champions Bayern Munich having only earned promotion last summer.
Technical and physical traits similar to that of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante have seen him become a key target for Jurgen Klopp, with the Reds boss keen to not only bolster his side’s strength in depth but also the spine of his starting lineup.
It won’t be Liverpool’s spending power that puts the deal into jeopardy with Klopp set to have the club’s largest ever transfer budget at his disposal.
