How the future of LFC summer transfer target could soon become clear

Unrelenting transfer rumours over the past few months have seen Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain emerge as a summer target for Liverpool.

Reports had tipped the Arsenal man to leave the club as a result of the uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Arsene Wenger and other star players at the Emirates. It had even been suggested that a deal was already in place to take him to Anfield when the transfer window opened.

Any talk of him departing is sure to be put on hold this weekend as the England man prepares to lineup for the Gunners in their FA Cup final against Premier League champions Chelsea. The occasion could, however, prove key in leading the midfielder towards a decision, especially if Arsenal lose.

The London club will begin contract talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain next week as they look to fight off interest from both Liverpool and Everton, according to Gary Jacob of the Times.

Jurgen Klopp’s desire to bolster the spine of the team appears to have seen him turn towards Oxlade-Chamberlain, as well as other targets, who would undoubtedly be drawn to the prospect of featuring in his favoured central midfield position.

Being restricted to a wing-back role towards the end of the season has seemingly fuelled the former Southampton man’s frustration and, in turn, led him to reconsider what comes next in his career.

His pace, directness on the ball and energy makes interest in him self-explanatory given Klopp’s wish to add to the explosive and intense style of play that granted his team so much success at various points throughout the season.
