Very promising update for Liverpool fans in Lacazette chase

Posted by

Liverpool yesterday confirmed the signing of Chelsea’s teenage forward Dominic Solanke, but Jurgen Klopp has his sights set on world-class operators as well, if reports are anything to go by…

One name that has been consistently linked is Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, but most fans had given up on the Frenchman when it was revealed that he agreed to join Atletico Madrid, providing their transfer ban was overturned.

However, morning reports suggest the Court of Arbitration for sport will uphold the ban, meaning Atletico won’t be able to make any first-team signings this summer.

Arsenal all also interested, but the prolific forward has always claimed he will not leave for a club outside of the Champions League…

PSG are signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Manchester United want Antoine Griezmann, Manchester City and Spurs are well-stocked, meaning perhaps only Chelsea provide obvious competition if they’re looking for a Diego Costa replacement.

There’s no confirmation Jurgen Klopp wants Lacazette, but the striker has notched 22, 31, 23 and 37 goals over the past four seasons – as good as anybody bar Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Our top scorer for the campaign was Coutinho with 14 goals, less than half Lacazette’s total. We currently have Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino competing for the central striker’s spot, but the former may depart, while Origi is inconsistent and Firmino perhaps better suited to attacking midfield.

Fans would love Lacazette to arrive, but you can be certain he’d require a mammoth sum.
