Liverpool have ‘definite’ interest in Brazilian attacker [Echo]

Liverpool are keeping tabs on a number of wide-attackers if our bid to sign Mo Salah fails, including Lazio’s Keita Balde, Sporting Lisbon’s Gelson Martins and most excitingly, Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa.

The Echo claim we have ‘definite’ interest in the Brazilian, who took the Bundesliga by storm in 2015/16, but has struggled under Carlo Ancelotti since Pep Guardiola left to join Manchester City.

Costa is a player who’ll excite fans because he’s so exceptionally skilful. He beats defenders with tricks and has a thunderous long-range shot, too. At 26, he’s at a perfect age, with Bayern likely to sell this summer while his stock is still high.

Liverpool’s priority target is Salah, Roma’s flying wing-forward, but the Italians are asking for a very large sum and although the Egyptian has agreed personal terms, Jurgen Klopp is letting them know he’s not afraid of considering other options.

We’d be disappointed with either Keita or Balde, but Costa would be a more than acceptable alternative to Salah.
