LFC lead Man United in £50m chase for 37-goal hitman

Liverpool, having been blunted in our pursuit of Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, are very keen to get a marquee deal over the line soon to appease supporters becoming increasingly agitated by our failings in the market.

Even with Champions League football and the lure of Jurgen Klopp, we’ve seemingly botched deals for the manager’s primary targets already.

The Express and the Telegraph are reporting that Liverpool want £50m-rated Alexandre Lacazette, the Lyon striker who unlike our other targets, is definitely available.

Manchester United have also been linked, but they seem more keen on Torino’s Andrea Belotti and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

Here’s what Lyon honco Jean-Michel Aulas said about his side’s star player; it’s certainly not a ‘hands-off warning’…

“We will have to meet with Alex again,” he began. “We will have to see what will happen in the future, but today the decision to let Alexandre go is now under scrutiny.

“I would prefer that he stays. In the context of our competitiveness and our desire to build a truly great team for next season.

“Lyon has a lot of very good players and if Alexandre does not leave it will be another player in very similar conditions.”

Last term, Lacazette plundered 37 goals in all competitions, and at 26, is entering his peak. He had agreed a move to Atletico Madrid, but the Spaniards have a transfer ban and he now has to find another Champions League side to join.

This story does slightly confuse us though, because Lacazette is very much a centre-forward and Klopp seems to prefer a wide-attacker – hence why we’ve targeted Salah, Julian Brandt and others.
