The Virgil van Dijk calamity is refusing to disappear with the latest developments revealing details of the defender’s meetings with Jurgen Klopp while also suggesting Chelsea could be investigated over an illegal approach.

The report also suggested that the centre-back had already agreed personal terms with Liverpool and that he has since ‘kicked up a fuss’ in an attempt to force a move away from St Mary’s. Despite the setback, a number of fans remain quietly confident that a deal may still be possible. That said, it would take some serious u-turn at this stage with Southampton continuing to reiterate that their star man is not for sale.
