Reports linking Liverpool to a move for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have once again resurfaced with the club supposedly keen on bringing the versatile midfielder to Anfield this summer.
The England star has been subject to strong interest from Jurgen Klopp for the past few months yet suggestions a deal was already in motion have since failed to materialise.
Rumours surrounding a potential move to Merseyside had recently gone quiet with Arsenal seemingly confident of agreeing a new deal with the 23-year-old, who is now heading into the final 12 months of his current contract.
As part of a last ditch attempt to stop Oxlade-Chamberlain signing a new £100,000-a-week deal, Liverpool are prepared to offer £40million, according to the Express.
This would mean paying over the £35million that was spent on Andy Carroll and thereby breaking the club’s transfer record- something Liverpool are supposedly happy to do on multiple occasions during this window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s sheer pace, power and directness would make him an ideal fit to the explosive attacking football Klopp has implemented, thereby, along with his Premier League experience, making interest in him self-explanatory.
He possesses the traits capable of bolstering the spine of the team as well as making him a viable option to provide the team with some much-needed width.
A productive summer as far as recruitment is concerned is crucial with pressure increasing on the club following the apparent collapse of a deal for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk. The growing uncertainty over a move for Roma winger Mohamed Salah has also seen fans push the Reds to act quickly and simply pay up to secure the signings the team needs.
In a mixed season for Arsenal, Oxlade-Chamberlain emerged as a standout performer and was also on target for his country in Saturday’s 2-2 World Cup qualifier draw against Scotland.
