Liverpool to offer German 23-year-old £100k/week, 4-year contract

It looks like Liverpool will be extending Emre Can’s contract after all…

The 23-year-old German, who was so crucial to our excellent Premier League run-in which confirmed Champions League qualification, has only 12 months left on his deal, but it looks as though the club will soon announce his renewed terms.

A number of blogs are running the story, which is also being discussed by relevant accounts on social media, although there’s no official word from a trusted source yet. Tuttomercato are running with it, but we’d be surprised if an Italian site has the scoop before one of the respected Merseyside correspondents!

Still, Liverpool said they’d deal with Can’s contract situation this summer and we’d be surprised if we weren’t doing exactly that – especially considering Dejan Lovren’s new £100k/week extension signed a few months back.

Can was inconsistent before Christmas and woeful just after it, but his performances from February onwards showed fans what he is, but more importantly, what he can become.

At his best, he combines physical prowess, technical skills and hunger; the perfect recipe for a Premier League midfielder.

New signings this summer are key, but the confirmation that Can’s future lies on Merseyside will be greatly welcomed.
