Why Liverpool’s pursuit of £50million target is now even tougher…

Liverpool managing to lure Naby Keita to Anfield this summer promises to be a tough task with RB Leipzig now in an even stronger position to keep hold of the player.

Keita has seen his impressive season in the Bundesliga put his name on Jurgen Klopp’s transfer wishlist with the Reds supposedly prepared to pay the £50million asking price to sign the Guinean.

That said, Leipzig are standing firm and remain intent on keeping one of their star players at the club following an eye-opening second-placed finish in their first season since being promoted to Germany’s top flight.

After Leipzig were recently being cleared to feature in the Champions League following uncertainty over their eligibility, CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is positive Keita and his in-demand teammate Emil Forsberg will stay put.

“It would be negligent to sell one of our key players now,” he told BILD.

“Emil and Naby are extremely talented and developable players, we are glad that we are able to keep up with their development as a club.”

“And now we can prove ourselves in the Champions League in the coming season.”

Keita’s current employers find themselves in an ideal position where they by no means need the money and have a place in Europe’s elite competition as well as an exciting project to promise their players

Regardless of the apparent setback, Liverpool will undoubtedly progress with their approach for Keita after they complete a deal for Roma winger Mohamed Salah.
