Reliable journalist claims LFC are prepared to bid for Mbappe but denies €100m offer

Reports that Liverpool have had a second bid for Kylian Mbappe rejected are seemingly off the mark but by no means rule out the club pursuing the striker this summer.

Monaco have not received and rejected a €100m offer for the teenager from Liverpool contrary to claims by Spanish publication Marca, according to Paul Joyce from the Times.

Having said this, Joyce also proceeded to suggest that the club’s interest is genuine and that the Reds would be prepared to bid for the 18-year-old were he to opt for a move to England as the next step in his career.

This would mean competing with Arsenal, who are believed to have had a substantial bid for Mbappe turned down in recent months.

The player’s French employers appear to be standing firm and are unlikely to budge unless a record bid comes in for one of world football’s most exciting prospects.

A key issue, as it is for most high-profile transfers, will be Real Madrid’s approach with Mbappe rumoured to have set his heart on a future move to the La Liga giants.

Whether that is now or in years to come remains to be seen, however, given the uncertainty over whether a switch to Madrid would grant him the regular game time he needs.

The promising sign is Jurgen Klopp’s obvious interest in the player and the ambition the club is showing to put itself in the race for a talent capable of becoming world class.
