Unfinished business- Roma targeting LFC man they wanted as part of Salah deal

Liverpool could be set to deal with Roma for a second time during this transfer window with the Italian club reportedly eyeing up a move for an in-demand Red.

The Serie A side want to sign left-back Alberto Moreno after unsuccessfully mentioning the Spaniard as a potential part of the deal that saw Mohamed Salah join Liverpool, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, as translated by the Liverpool Echo.

It appears Roma have thereby joined rivals Napoli in the race for the defender, with the latter having recently seen a bid for the 24-year-old rejected.

Moreno’s name is on a long list of Reds expected to be shown the exit door at Anfield this summer after failing to prove himself as a reliable option to Jurgen Klopp and, in turn, losing his place to make-shift left-back James Milner towards the beginning of last season.

Milner has since impressed in the unfamiliar role, so much so that Klopp is prepared to enter the new Premier League season with the Englishman still as part of his back four.

Liverpool are believed to want £15million for Moreno, who has also reportedly drawn interest from AC Milan, Inter Milan as well as former club Sevilla.

Though the arrival of a replacement looks increasingly likely, it remains to be seen whether Klopp will seek an immediate first choice or an understudy to Milner.

Hull City’s Andrew Robertson has emerged as the most likely candidate ahead of Celtic’s Kieran Tierney, Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam- both of which have also been subject to tenuous links to a Liverpool move.

While addressing the left-back position appears a priority for most fans, the club itself seems in no rush. Perhaps that’s because the transfer window only opened on Saturday. Feels like it’s been going on forever, right?
