RB Leipzig officials divided over Naby Keita stance; transfer request being considered

Liverpool could receive a boost in their pursuit of Naby Keita thanks to seemingly opposing stances being taken by key figures at RB Leipzig.

The Reds saw an initial £57million bid for the Guinean rejected last week but are expected to return with a significantly increased second offer of £65million as they look to test the resolve of Keita’s employers.

An initial adamance that the 22-year-old is not for sale at any price has gradually altered with the 2016/2017 Bundesliga runners-up now appearing more accepting of approaches.

Foot224 journalist Amadou Makadji, who has been at the forefront of Keita-related rumours, has taken to Twitter to report that Leipzig’s  president and coach are now open and not keen on keeping a player who has set his heart on a move elsewhere.

This would thereby mean defying the wishes of the club’s sporting director Ralph Rangnick, who has regularly insisted that Keita will be going nowhere this summer.

In a series of tweets, Makadji also suggested a transfer request is being considered on Keita’s part, although the player himself is hopeful Leipzig will grant him a move as opposed to him having to force one through.

It promises to be an interesting week as Liverpool go all out to secure their priority target.
