Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cryptically hints at Liverpool move

The modern day transfer window rarely fails to live up to expectations and has again been at hand to add to the drama surrounding Liverpool’s business.

A mounting pressure on the Reds to not only keep hold of Philippe Coutinho but also bring in a couple of new faces has seen even the most tenuous links spark a reaction.

Just when a proposed move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain seemed dead and buried, the player himself has given Reds fans a glimmer of hope.

Something as simple as the Arsenal man liking an Instagram comment suggesting he was on his way to Liverpool for £28million appears to represent a small hint, for some.

It isn’t the first time social media has played a key role in fuelling rumours, with RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita having caught the eye by following Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino on Instagram.

On that occasion, it turned out to be irrelevant with Liverpool shelving their interest in the Guinean after seeing two bids of £57million and £66million rejected by the Bundesliga club.

Interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain looked as though it had diffused a few weeks ago, when Chelsea were believed to be entering negotiations over a deal for the midfielder.

That followed reports suggesting the former Southampton starlet was refusing to sign a new deal at the Emirates and instead keen on a move elsewhere, with Anfield being tipped as his most likely destination.

A failure to sign Keita this summer and Adam Lallana’s injury setback means Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a welcomed and affordable addition to the squad, not to mention someone technically and physically equipped to thrive in Jurgen Klopp’s setup.

We are into that stage of the transfer window, folks.
