Paul Joyce in the Times has confirmed that the Dutchman’s stance has not changed, and he still prefers a move to Anfield over one to Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City.

He handed in a transfer request in order to force a move to Liverpool, where he could join Jurgen Klopp, the manager who best sold his project to the player.

Southampton have yet to receive an offer for their captain, but it’s surely untenable that he’ll remain at St. Mary’s following one of the most inflammatory transfer requests in recent memory.

Joyce suggests that the saga will go right down to the wire, and with three weeks left of the transfer window, we don’t expect anything to be done soon.

The job of convincing the player to sign has already been done, but the one of tempting his club to let him join us is proving much harder.
