Roberto Firmino asks Coutinho to stay at LFC in brilliant interview

At least there’s one brilliant Brazilian who wants to play for Liverpool…

Roberto Firmino has given a lengthy and intriguing interview to Paul Joyce, in which he’s expressed his love for the club, the fans and explained why he’s chosen the no.9 for the new campaign.

Most importantly though, he asked his pal Coutinho to stay at the club and explained his love for the city – promising to give his all this campaign to ensure we win trophies.

The 25-year-old is Jurgen Klopp’s starting centre-forward, and we expect him to form a front-three this term with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah on either side.

If these three can stay fit, Liverpool’s attack looks as dangerous as any in the country.

“It can only get better from now on for me. We have everything to have a great season,” he told the Times. “We are hungry to win every match we are playing and, at the end of the season, hopefully God gives us what we deserve. We will be there. I want to win. That is what I am made for.”

“I did prepare myself well with the whole team. I hope we can make a successful campaign and the goals will come naturally. Each player has his ambition during the season and I do not intend to be any different.

“I do not get nervous at all. I transform myself when I enter the pitch; I become a different person and concentrate only on the game and forget everything out there and my only desire is to come out as the winner.

“I’ve heard of other No 9s that have played here and I’m always willing to help my team by trying to score goals so we can win games. I’ll do my best to make my game successful.

“The shirt was free and I was asked if I wanted it. It — No 9 — is a special number for Brazilians and I like it too, so I changed the number myself. I was kind of surprised by the number of shirts in the room and happy at the same time — knowing that my work is being recognised by the fans and for the club. I hope to be able to increase this recognition each day.”

“That season I scored 20 goals. I played in the No 10 position but sometimes also as a striker,” he said. “I had a great time. I always helped the team as best as I could and we did not always fight for the top places, but we had a good team and I scored a lot of goals during the four seasons. But now I’m creating a new story here and I’m very happy to play against them for the first time.

“When I arrived [in Germany], it was quite difficult. The weather, the food and mainly the language. The football is also different from Brazil. I learnt a lot; I improved my mind a lot and I should only thank them [Hoffenheim] for the time I spent there because I acquired a lot of experience and became a much, much stronger man. I had to fight for everything.

“Of all the ties we could have got, this one [Hoffenheim] will be the most difficult. They are an excellent team, have a new coach, but he knows a lot about football. It will be two difficult games for us but I hope we can impose our rhythm and apply everything we did in the pre-season.

“Everything the club has been doing during these years together is about allowing us to do our best and, in the end, to be the winners.”

Firmino also went on to discuss his friendship with Coutinho, assuring supporters that unlike our more revered Brazilian, his head has not and will not be turned.

“I can’t say anything [about Coutinho], but I hope he stays. I have been very happy since the day I arrived here. I am very passionate about everything, for the team, for the city, and especially for the fans. I am very happy and I hope to contribute more every day to win the league and to make sure that every time I play, I am conquering something great.

“I’m going to give my all. I will help our team and will do my very best so I can renew [my contract]. I do not know what will happen, but I still have two years of contract and I will try to stay here.

“Hopefully we can achieve what we deserve to and the main thing is trophies this season.”

Firmino is an exceptional player, and now he’s on penalty duty for the new season, we hope he reaches close to 20 goals. He’s more than talented enough to hit those kind of numbers.
