Reds react brilliantly to Barcelona’s laughable Coutinho deadline

Confused by Barcelona setting a deadline for Liverpool to agree a deal for Philippe Coutinho? You aren’t alone.

After seeing bids of £72million, £90million and, most recently, an offer worth up to £118million rejected, the Catalan giants have given Liverpool an ultimatum. Accept the third offer by Sunday evening, or it will be withdrawn.

We may be missing a trick here, but surely that’s that as far as talk of Coutinho leaving is concerned. Owners Fenway Sports Group won’t change their minds, even if the Brazilian himself has set his heart on a switch to the Nou Camp.

Liverpool will let the clock tick down beyond this evening, Reds we’ll wake up on Monday morning and it will be over. Simplicity is a rarity in the modern day transfer market- making Barcelona’s apparent ‘threat’ and the likely outcome difficult to comprehend.

The countdown is on then, for Liverpool to rebuff Barcelona’s attempts and for Coutinho to subsequently turn his attention back to the Reds.

That said, this bizarre twist hints at the Spanish side trying to force the playmaker into kicking up an even bigger fuss.

Supporters have inevitably been at hand to have their say…
