Wenger speaks on Lemar; but Monaco man is ‘LFC or nothing’

Arsene Wenger has boldly claimed that Arsenal will go back in for Thomas Lemar, despite the Frenchman rejecting their advances on transfer deadline day.

The Gunners lodged a £92m bid for Monaco’s 21-year-old, but he wasn’t interested in moving to the Emirates – instead keen on joining Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool revolution.

Speaking to French broadcaster Telefoot, cited in the Daily Mail, Wenger said: ‘Yes, we bid €100m for Lemar but he wanted to stay at Monaco.’

‘Yes, we’ll come back in for him,’ he confirmed.

However, the Times‘ Jonathan Northcroft has backed up claims in L’Equipe that it’s ‘the Reds, or nothing else,’ for one of Europe’s brightest talents.

‘Lemar had not agreed to come to Arsenal and is said to be more interested in going to Liverpool next summer,’ he said.

For us at EOTK though, we’re just interested in getting on with the football. Our squad for the season has been decided, and until January at the earliest, that’s the way it’ll stay.

Anything can change in a year and we don’t think there’s much point worrying about next summer’s window. Lemar could get an injury or lose form. Liverpool could win the lot and not require a new player in his position. Who knows, Ben Woodburn or Marko Grujic could become ‘The Lemar of this season’!

Wenger wants the player to know Arsenal are in for him long-term, but right now, he isn’t Liverpool’s priority and shouldn’t be, either.
