Oxlade-Chamberlain: Chelsea never an option when LFC came in

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is saying all the right things having joined Liverpool this summer.

The Englishman transferred from Arsenal for £35m on deadline day and could make a debut against Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime, albeit probably from the bench.

He turned down £180k/week to stay at the Emirates and rejected Premier League champions Chelsea too, all because he was desperate to work with Jurgen Klopp.

“The first thing was the tough decision to leave Arsenal. That was the only thing that was really tough for me and the deliberation but Liverpool was the only option for me in terms of where I thought I would be playing,” he told Sky Sports.

“The team and the feel of the whole football club in general just sat right with me. I think there are really exciting things to come here and especially with this manager so I felt it was right for me to push to be a part of that. I’m delighted that I finally got the opportunity to.”

Klopp has told the Englishman he’ll be an option on either flank or in one of the advanced midfield positions in our dynamic 4-3-3.

For us, Oxlade-Chamberlain is best when he’s running with the ball. He isn’t a great passer, but has tremendous ability to break at pace.

However, earning one of the two spots alongside Jordan Henderson, when we have Emre Can, Gini Wijnaldum, Coutinho and Adam Lallana competing for spots, is going to be really tricky.
