‘I don’t think I can give him tips’ – LFC boss brash on striker’s finishing

Jurgen Klopp has given support to centre-forwards Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke, both of who came close but failed to score against Burnley at the weekend.

Sturridge enjoyed the full 90 for the first time in well over a year in a Premier League game, and although his all-round contribution was good – his end product was a little off.

Liverpool’s manager has said that he will not criticise the Englishman though, as there’s no advice he can really give a player with such talent anyway.

“Daniel has not had many minutes, but he was really good for 90 against Burnley – always involved!” the boss began, cited in the Echo.

“I don’t think I can give Daniel a lot of tips on how he could score more often. He’s an outstanding striker, when he’s fit, everybody knows that.

“For example Sturridge, usually he will score (v Burnley). Shall I go to him and say ‘Daniel, what are you doing?’

“Solanke hit the crossbar, do I need to talk to him about this? Outside people do.

“We have to take the criticism and the blame.”

Both the forwards are vying for a start up top against Leicester, with Roberto Firmino a practical certainty to be rested.

Solanke might just get the nod, with Klopp unlikely to use Sturridge from the outset twice in four days.

We’d be pleased with either, in short. Perhaps both will play, with Ben Woodburn making up the front-three.
