The obvious trick LFC have missed & why Spurs/United are better – Pearce

Former pro/manager turned pundit Stuart Pearce thinks Liverpool should have followed the example of Manchester United and Tottenham in the transfer market and signed a centre-forward.

United secured Romelu Lukaku and the Belgian has already made his £75m price-tag look a bargain, while Spurs added Fernando Llorente to back up Harry Kane, the world’s in-form striker right now.

Neither United or Spurs are creating as many chances as Liverpool, but both are converting a much, much higher percentage – especially in the past month.

In that time, Liverpool have won just once in six, bagging six goals from 122 shots.

“When you look at the array of talent they’ve got up front, their strike-force, or combination strike-force, is as good as anything in the league, within reason,” Pearce told Sky Sports, via the Express.

“But they’ve not got an individual at this moment in time who has looked clinical in front of goal, like Harry Kane, [Romelu] Lukaku”.

“Liverpool are creating the chances which is a real plus, but they’re failing to hit the back of the net”.

It’s difficult to argue with Pearce’s sentiments on recent evidence.

Daniel Sturridge played at the weekend but looked a shadow of his former self, unable to penetrate in behind the opposition, missing a simple chance to boot.

Coutinho and Sadio Mane are good finishers, but both play from deep and will never be considered our focal point…

Last term we had games where we could have done with a clinical centre-forward to help us win when we created little, but now the problem is even more apparent as there’s multiple opportunities to score every game.

Jurgen Klopp is happy with Roberto Firmino, who is a brilliant player but a poor, poor finisher.

After the international break, we really hope Liverpool’s attackers find their shooting boots, or this could be a long season!
