What happened when Steven Gerrard’s U18s played West Brom on Saturday…

Liverpool’s U18s cruised to a 5-2 win over West Bromwich Albion thanks to a scintillating attacking display at the Kirkby Academy.

A goal from Paul Glatzel and a brace from substitute Liam Millar in the second half proved the difference as the Reds saw the Baggies off after a tight first 45 minutes.

Steven Gerrard’s men were made to pay for their sloppy start when West Brom’s Sam Wilding put the away side ahead after some excellent work by Rayhaan Tulloch on the byline.

The Reds were level shortly after when the impressive Curtis Jones scored a superb goal from the edge of the box following a neat one-two with Glen McAuley.

Tulloch was involved again minutes later when he won a penalty under the challenge of Rhys Williams, which Myles Hall converted to restore the Baggies’ lead.

That was the wake-up call the home side needed as Liverpool kicked it up a gear in search of an equaliser before half-time.

Their step-up was rewarded when a George Harmon handball gifted skipper Adam Lewis the chance to draw level from the spot- a chance he took full advantage of.

Liverpool asserted themselves after the interval, with Glatzel firing home from close range to put his side ahead for the first time in the game.

Millar wasted no time in making an impact after replacing McAuley as he finished off Elijah Dixon-Bonner’s through ball to make it 4-2 with his first touch of the game.

He got his second moments later, tapping in a low driven cross from Lewis on the left-hand side.
