Klopp: Why Mignolet is starting ahead of Karius today

There was so many comments by supporters wanting Simon Mignolet dropped for the Spurs clash this week, it almost became an assumption that Loris Karius would replace the Belgian today.

Mignolet was awful against Tottenham last weekend, blatantly at fault for one of the four goals we conceded.

But Jurgen Klopp has told fans that he’ll keep his spot explaining that dropping him for the clanger wouldn’t be right.

“Simon will play,” Klopp told the Echo.

“I didn’t think a second about changing this position.”

‘Would it be unfair to punish Mignolet for his Spurs?’ Klopp was asked…

 “Absolutely. Yes.”

We have no real problem with this, as Karius has very rarely covered himself in glory when given an opportunity between the sticks.

Danny Ward is another option, but the Welshman has picked up a very untimely injury – just when he might have had a chance of selection.

At EOTK, we think the fact Klopp hasn’t properly replaced Mignolet is an error, but will be fully behind the stopper when he takes the field.

In fairness, he’s capable of making superb saves – but his mistakes have become iconic of the four years he’s been at the club.

We’re hoping for a clean-sheet today!
