Congratulations Joe Gomez!
Liverpool’s youngster, who’s only really been in first-team consideration since the beginning of this campaign, has been selected for Gareth Southgate’s England squad to face England and Brazil.

Tammy Abraham of Swansea and Rueben Loftus-Cheek have also been included for the first time to face Germany and Brazil.
The picks surprise us in fairness, with these games some of the only opportunities for Southgate to field his best side before the World Cup next summer, with England qualified.
Congratulations to @J_Gomez97, @rubey_lcheek and @tammyabraham on their first #ThreeLions call-ups! 👏

Gomez has made Liverpool’s right-back spot his own in the absence of Nathaniel Clyne this term.
Trent Alexander-Arnold provides a superb rotation option in the Champions League, but Gomez gets selected in the Premier League – and probably deservedly so as well.
The likes of Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier are obviously ahead of Gomez in the senior pecking order, but who knows – if he continues playing as well as he has the past few weeks perhaps he’ll be heading to Russia!
