What happened when Dejan Lovren played for Croatia last night…

Dejan Lovren has been injured and unavailable for Liverpool, but was selected by Croatia for their World Cup qualifying play-off game in Zagreb against Greece.

Thankfully, Lovren was on the winning side, with the favourites coming out 4-1 victors thanks to goals by Modric, Perisic, Kalinic and Kramaric.

However, Lovren has still come in for criticism because of Greece’s goal, in which he was potentially out of position.

You can watch the goal, here.

In fairness, Papastathopoulos shouldn’t be allowed to get a head on goal so easily, when up against a centre-back whose role it is to defend the corner.

Lovren’s miserable past month has been well publicised…

The defender was so bad against Tottenham that he was hauled off after half an hour, blatantly at fault for two goals.

Dejan Lovren endured a horror-show performance v Spurs last month.

He then picked up an injury, received death threats and to make matters worse, had his house smashed into by thugs.

While he’s a Liverpool player, we’ll support him 100%.

Do we think he’s the long-term solution to our central defensive issues? No. Is he the sole problem? No.
