Revealed- Man Utd’s laughable pitch to lure Jurgen Klopp to Old Trafford

Liverpool fans can be forgiven for not holding back the laughs when reading of Manchester United’s failed approach for Jurgen Klopp.

It is common knowledge that the German was targeted in 2014 as a replacement for David Moyes, who had endured a torrid time after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson. What isn’t so well known is exactly how the Reds’ fierce rivals tried to lure Klopp to Manchester.

The explosive brand of attacking football Klopp had implemented at Borussia Dortmund proved to be a key element of United’s interest in him, just as it was for Liverpool.

It could have been a whole lot different, had club’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward designed a more convincing job pitch.

In new biography ‘Klopp: Bring the Noise’, written by Raphael Honigstein, it reveals Woodward described Old Trafford as “like an adult version of Disneyland, a mythical place where the entertainment was world class and dreams came true,” as reported by the Mirror.

Klopp took the offer into serious consideration, but couldn’t bring himself to cut ties with the Dortmund team that he had progressed so far with.

That, of course, worked in Liverpool’s favour when a role at Anfield in 2015 proved irresistible for a man supporters deemed as a perfect fit for the passion and the history of the club.

Though Klopp is yet to win a trophy on Merseyside, he has helped the club take significant strides towards rediscovering a lost identity and is close to constructing a squad capable of again challenging for the Premier League title.

Thank you, Ed Woodward.
