Emre Can is leaving Liverpool.
That much we’re pretty much 100% certain of, considering he’s not renewing the lease on his tenancy and has not shown any signs of putting pen to paper either.
Juventus were the runaway favourites, but Manchester City have emerged as late contenders and now interestingly, so have Borussia Dortmund – Jurgen Klopp’s former club.
Bild have gone to town on this one today, crediting the story to three journalists and running it in their print version too.
They claim a ‘mega-transfer’ is possible, with Can departing Anfield for his homeland.
The article claims that Can’s agent Reza Fazeli also looks after Dortmund stars Mahoud Dahoud and Nuri Sahin – and manager Peter Bosz to boot.
For us though, Dortmund would be a sideways step. Yes, they’re in the Champions League almost every year, but they’re ultimately a selling club – and do not pay wages on par with Liverpool.
Surely part of the reason Can is running down his Liverpool contract is to get a heftier sum elsewhere?
For this reason, City look an unfortunate possibility, with Pep Guardiola’s club paying out astronomical amounts for every new signing.
We’d much prefer Can sign abroad, but once his contract is up, he no longer belongs to Liverpool.
