Shock horror… Sadio Mane’s hamstring injury has flared up

Liverpool fans woke up to very, very annoying news this morning.

Sadio Mane’s hamstring injury has flared up and he’s been sent back to Melwood as a result.

The 25-year-old played the entire match for his country as they beat South Africa 2-0 and ensured World Cup qualification, but for us, it’s come at a cost.

“Sadio Mane has slightly felt his old injury,” the Senegalese Football Federation told ESPN.

“After consultations between the medical staff of the national team of Senegal and Liverpool, it was decided by mutual agreement for his club to continue treatment until full recovery.”
Sadio Mane played for the full 90 for Senegal v South Africa at the weekend.

That’s now two consecutive international breaks where Mane has left us fit and returned crocked.

In fairness to Senegal, they had to field their best player – and Liverpool cannot blame their medical staff considering we sent a club physio out there with him.

However, when the game was already won, it would have been nice for Aliou Cisse to withdraw Mane early, but we suppose he didn’t want to take any risks…

Now, Mane faces a race to be fit for the Southampton clash at the weekend.

He’s already showed exceptional powers of recovery, so with six days before the Anfield tie, we’re holding out hope that he’ll be ready.

Now, Liverpool fans will be anxiously watching Coutinho against England tomorrow night, with the Brazilian playmaker set to start despite not being available for Liverpool in weeks.
