Another twist in the Goretzka transfer chase…

Schalke sporting director Christan Heidel thinks there still remains a chance that Leon Goretzka will renew his terms and stay in Germany.

The midfielder has not yet put pen to paper and with foreign clubs allowed to freely offer him a Bosman contract in around six weeks’ time on January 1st – it’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll leave.

However, Heidel thinks there’s a chance Schalke will hang on to their star player, as they failed to do with Joel Matip in 2016.

“I have faith in Leon and his advisers. We remain in the race,” Heidel told Kicker, translated by talkSPORT.

Leon Goretzka has been superb for Schalke this term.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Arsenal have all been credited with an interest, but Jurgen Klopp is very keen – especially considering Emre Can is practically certain to depart via a Bosman himself.

Goretzka has been in cracking form this campaign…

Despite his contract situation, this season is looking like a defining one for Goretzka.

He’s already on four Bundesliga goals and bagged three for Germany in World Cup qualifying too.

This combined with his ever-improving physical traits and understanding of the game mean we’re looking at a potentially elite midfielder.

Let’s hope he can fulfil his promise at Anfield.
