LFC’s best XI v Southampton: Lallana returns; Coutinho on left

Here’s our prediction for the Liverpool XI that will start against Southampton on Saturday…

Our last lineup before the international break beat West Ham 4-1 at the London Stadium – but we think Jurgen Klopp will make a few subtle changes.

Notably, Adam Lallana could make his first start of the season in a midfield three. The Englishman adds energy, technical ability and relentless pressing to the side. Sadly, we think it could be at Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s expense, however, despite the former Arsenal man scoring v West Ham.

With Jordan Henderson injured, Emre Can will anchor the side, with Gini Wijnaldum making up the three.

The defence picks itself at the moment when everyone’s fit, bar the central defender alongside Joel Matip. We reckon Klopp will go with Dejan Lovren instead of Ragnar Klavan, now we’re playing slightly deeper. Simon Mignolet keeps net, Joe Gomez plays right-back and Alberto Moreno plays left-back.

Up top, Coutinho can naturally slot in on the left, with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino completing a fluid front-three.

Alternatively, Klopp could keep Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right and deploy the 4-2-3-1 we played with last time.
