Klopp gives intriguing answer to Van Dijk question…

Jurgen Klopp was irritated by a question asked of him today at his Melwood press-conference, ahead of Saturday’s clash with Southampton.

Back pages this morning were full of reports which suggested Southampton will allow Virgil van Dijk a transfer to Liverpool in January, providing we stump up £70m for his services.

But Klopp refused to discuss our interest in the Dutchman, reminding the journalist that Liverpool were reported to the Premier League for illegally approaching him in the summer.

Notably, he didn’t deny interest – as he often does when a transfer rumour is bogus.

“You really expect an answer? What happened in the summer? I have nothing to say about that!” Klopp told the Echo.

“Hopefully (it will be difficult for him coming to Anfield on Saturday). It should be difficult for every player coming to Anfield.”

Liverpool’s current 1st choice CBs Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have struggled this season.

Barring a late injury, van Dijk will make his first appearance against Liverpool since the infamous failed transfer saga.

In many ways, it’ll be an audition in front of Liverpool’s supporters, who will no doubt be watching him very, very closely.

Oddly, we hope he has a stinker in many ways, as that’ll likely enable Liverpool to emerge victorious.

Regardless of his performance, it won’t change Klopp’s opinion on him. Liverpool’s boss is so desperate to sign the 26-year-old he didn’t bring in anyone else in the summer so he could wait for van Dijk.

This winter, we’re backing it to get done.
