Daniel Sturridge has had enough of sitting on the bench and waiting for his chance at Liverpool.

According to the Mirror’s Darren Lewis, the striker has demanded a January exit to ensure first-team football before the World Cup which will, in Sturridge’s eyes, get him back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The forward was recently left out of the group which faced Germany and Brazil, with the likes of Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke used instead.

This, along with the fact Sturridge hasn’t played a single minute of Liverpool’s past two matches, has forced the 28-year-old to boldly force his position.

Daniel Sturridge dropped and unused despite back to back goals v Huddersfield and Maribor.

Despite scoring a key goal against Huddersfield and then another v Maribor, Jurgen Klopp didn’t even bring Sturridge off the bench against West Ham or Southampton – which is absolute proof that the German sees him as a backup only.

With the likes of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Coutinho in the attack, this is understandable, but so is Sturridge’s decision to force an exit.

He’s far too good to warm any bench, and the World Cup in Russia will be the last while in his prime years.

We wouldn’t begrudge him a departure at all, providing we can bring in an automatic replacement who wouldn’t mind initially playing second fiddle.

In summer 2018, we’ll need a proper centre-forward, with Timo Werner one that excites us greatly.
