Liverpool fans demand first-team call-up for U23s sensation

Bemused Liverpool fans have been left wondering what more Harry Wilson can do to earn a call-up to Jurgen Klopp’s first team squad.

The forward has been in stunning form for the U23s so far this season, providing the same attacking threat that saw him register 28 goals over the 2016/2017 campaign.

Wilson has established himself as a prominent figure in Neil Critchley’s side and has often been a class above his opponents in the Premier League 2, which Liverpool currently lead by a margin of six points.

The Welshman made the headlines yet again on Saturday as he scored twice to lead the young Reds to a 3-1 win over Chelsea.

After enduring an injury-stricken and consequently short-lived loan spell with Crewe Alexandra in 2015, Wilson has since reinvented himself as one of the brightest prospects on Merseyside.

Unlike Ben Woodburn and Trent Alexander-Arnold, however, opportunities in the senior team have been hard to come by for the 20-year-old.

His one and only first team appearance came as a second-half substitute in a 1-0 FA Cup win away to Plymouth Argyle in January this year.

With 11 goals for the season already to his name, Wilson is displaying no signs of abandoning the work ethic and commitment that has seen him continue to demand attention.

The attacking strength in depth at Klopp’s disposal doesn’t rule out an immediate future at Anfield, but does hint that a loan move in January may be the logical progression.

He now finds himself far superior to the competition in the U23s and equipped to start seeking the regular first-team football that could spring-board his career.
