The truth behind Mohamed Salah’s non-celebration against Chelsea

Mohamed Salah followed up scoring his 10th league goal of the season for Liverpool by making a classy gesture in honour of the victims of the recent terror attack in Egypt.

The summer-signing reclaimed his place as the Premier League’s top scorer with a calm finish against his former employers Chelsea.

It was his previous ties to the Reds’ opponents that triggered many to believe his very obvious non-celebration was an acknowledgement of the team that first brought him to England.

That proved not to be the case, with Salah having raised his arms in tribute to the 305 people that lost their lives in his home nation, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Salah took to Twitter following the attack to pay his respects to those who died.

He said: “My sincere condolences to the Egyptian people and all the families of the martyrs of El Arish mosque.”

Salah has grown as a national icon in Egypt since his summer move to Liverpool, having not only taken England’s top flight by storm but also led his nation to the World Cup finals for the first time since 1990.

In notching his 15th goal of the campaign across all competitions on Saturday, the forward became the highest-scoring Red in a season since Luis Suarez’s 31 goals across 2013/2014.

His display served as a welcomed reminder of his drastic progression since his unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge in 2014.
