Willian makes suspect revelation about equaliser vs Liverpool

Willian has embarked on a mission to tease Liverpool fans by insisting his equaliser for Chelsea was intended as a shot at goal.

The Brazilian levelled things up for the away side in the 85th minute with a somewhat fortuitous effort that looped over Simon Mignolet and into the back of the net.

At first glance, it looked a remarkable chip from the playmaker, although it has since appeared more likely to have been a cross to the back-post for the on-running Alvaro Morata.

Willian, notably laughing, told Chelsea TV: “For sure, it was a shot, no doubt.”

“Some people ask, ‘You want to cross or you want to shoot?’ I said, ‘Shoot, of course. Too much quality’.”

“I’m happy to score this beautiful goal. In this kind of game, it’s important to score goals.”

The Chelsea man’s overwhelming confidence that he meant it suggests even he knows it was a wayward cross.

Regardless of his intentions, it’s fair to say Antonio Conte’s men were worthy of the point they earned having been a menacing threat on the counterattack, primarily courtesy of a world class outing from Eden Hazard.

Across from the Belgian, Mohamed Salah thrived against his former employers and served up a welcomed reminder of Chelsea’s loss very much being Liverpool’s gain.

The Egyptian continued his prolific goal-scoring streak by taking his tally to 15 for the season, 10 of which have made him the current Premier League top scorer.
