Manchester United want Leon Goretzka and will attempt to sign him on a Bosman free transfer, Sky Sports confirm.

The 22-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the end of this season, which means any club outside of Germany can offer him terms as soon as the New Year.

That’s in less than a month, so discussions with his representatives will have already begun behind closed doors.

Schalke have offered Goretzka a massive pay rise, but he’s yet to pen to paper and with Juventus, Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal all interested as well – it looks likely that he’ll follow Joel Matip and Sead Kolasinac out of the club on a free.

Leon Goretzka has scored five Bundesliga goals this term.

Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of the powerhouse, but it looks like Liverpool will face enormous competition for his signature.

Our manager has proven though that he has huge powers of persuasion when it comes to convincing players of his project. Naby Keita chose Liverpool over Barcelona, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain preferred signing for us than Chelsea, while Virgil van Dijk has his heart set on Merseyside despite Manchester City’s attention.

Hopefully, Klopp can work his magic and we can secure Goretzka on a free, about £40m less than his market value, we’d predict.
